Our Club

A friendly, active tennis club at the heart of Sandal, Wakefield — since 1885.

Sandal Lawn Tennis Club courts

History and facilities

Sandal Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1885 and sits close to the historic Sandal Castle in Wakefield. Originally a grass-court club, Sandal now has six newly refurbished all-weather courts, all fitted with new LED floodlights.

At the heart of the club is a well-equipped pavilion with a kitchen, lounge area and toilet facilities, alongside changing rooms recently refurbished to an exceptional standard — handy if you like a game before or after work. There is ample parking, and the club is a stone’s throw from the major roads into Wakefield and five minutes from the M1.

Our aim is simple: to encourage anyone, of any age, ability or background, to come and try tennis here. Come down, look round, and join a social session free of charge.

We pride ourselves on being a proper members’ club — run by members, for members. As a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) we welcome donations towards the upkeep and improvement of our facilities.

Our committee

The club is run entirely by volunteers. If you have a question, any one of us will be glad to help.
